HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR TYPEWRITER

Maintaining your typewriter is not so complicated. However, there are some things to keep in mind.

The most important part to keep your typewriter in working order is to keep it dust-free. You can prevent dust by placing the typewriter back in its case after using, or using a dust cover. Still got some dust inside? No worries, you can easily remove it by (for example) using a paint brush.

Is the cover of the typewriter dirty and you want to clean it? First, try to use just water. If water doesn't do the job, try to use all-purpose cleaner. But be careful with all-purpose cleaner; sometimes it works like a miracle, but it can also remove painted-on logo's or text. Also don't use any all-purpose cleaner on customized typewriters.
You got white Tipp-ex marks? Sometimes nail polish remover with aceton works, but be careful that it doesn't harm the paint of the typewriter.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Like written before, if you got a customized typewriter, don't use cleaning spirits.
  • Be careful with any cleaning spirits around printed or painted logo's on the typewriter.
  • Do you have an old typewriter with glass keys? Often underneath the glass there is a paper hidden. If you use any liquids around the keys, the water can get underneath and leave awful stains.
